No. Not exactly. It can 'leak' through the area around the belly button, or navel. It doesn't so much leak out as it does bulge out. A hernia in the abdomen is usually caused by a combination of the weakness of the outer connective tissues holding the organs in the abdominal cavity and the pressure inside the cavity, usually caused by exertion and/or lifting heavy objects improperly. When we hold our breath and strain, we dramatically increase the pressure inside the abdominal cavity, and if the factors are just right, we can cause a hernia. The tissues around the navel are a little different on account of the umbilical cord having been there before birth. It is strong enough by nature, but may be a bit weaker than the surrounding tissue, so a hernia can push right next to it and through the abdominal wall into the area of the skin near the belly button. It cannot, however, go through the navel, or umbilicus, itself.
