Our new guinea pig did not seem to drink from his water bottle so we added a water dish also but he poops in it. Is this normal?

Your hamster, just like people are not perfect. They have some weird behaviors that you will have to just accept. For instance, my female hamster urinates in a chosen corner and then puts her food their like nuts. I have to make sure that she doesn't eat it because she will get ill. So, I just have to clean that part of the cage everyday and supply fresh bedding if she requires that.

My advice is that you should always clean her water dish everday and make sure you wash the dish with hot water and soap aswell. Remember, hamsters do not drink alot of water if they are getting it from fresh fruit and green veggies (not iceburg lettice).
