Why on a 1991 Volvo 240 exterior lights will not turn off headlights tail lights licence plate light unplugged headlight switch it did nothing need to disconnect bat cable to shut them off?

does your car have a sensor in the dash or anywhere else for automatic lights on and off, it looks like a small ball. it works off of the same principle as a night light, when it is dark enough it the lights will come on, and vice versa, so check to see if you have one or if there is any papers on the dash clean it off. if this does not work and you so have a sensor like the one I described, it is probably bad
