What is the problem when you step on the gas and it feels like the emergency brake is on and the tachometer revs and then drops but if you turn the car off and then on again the problem disappears?

There is a sensor located just behind the alternator on top of the engine. I forget if it is the crank position sensor or what, but it has a single wire to it. You can look it up on a diagram. Mine was running terrible, I did not think I would make it home, I had to really nurse the throttle. It would jump up in rpms then drop a few hundred. That sensor change fixed it
