Do chestnuts come from under water?

No, i think you might be thinking of the chestnut barnacle which comes aboard to use the whale as a feeding station, it waves a whip like plum in the water to feed. It attaches to the whale but dies not hurt it. if you are interested i other barnacles checkout pics on google.
