What are the bit rates available for MP3?

The last I was aware, it was possible to hit 396 kbps on a .mp3 file. It depends on the software and your equipment's capabilities. Of course, that speed may have been exceeded, but I suspect that there's a point of diminishing returns in that the extra resolution probably doesn't contribute much more to the sound quality.
