What does DBE mean?

It stands for Dame Commander in The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. It is one of the highest honors a citizen of Great Britain can obtain. It is a knighthood and entitles one to use Dame in front of their name. There are five levels in the Order and this one is the second from the top.
