Dragon Ball Z came first. It was created by Akira Toriyama and first aired in 1989. Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto, came later and first aired in 2002. Dragon Ball Z is considered one of the most influential and popular anime series of all time, paving the way for many other shonen anime series like Naruto.
