Why would it have been crazy for Ichabod to be open about his feelings to Katrina?

It could be the usual shyness that is displayed when someone likes another person.

Most importantly, I'm not really sure if they cut the scene out of the movie but in the script, crane asks for sara ( a servent) to get him a bible, but Katrina insists she give it to him herself. She knocks, is said to come in and leaves it on the table-he has his bak turned to her the whole time b/c he was doing work. He says "so tell me about the brute that seems Tobe miss Katrina's-- then he turns to see Katrina instead of sara whom he told to get the bible. He in now felling like he screwed up. Katrina tells him brom proposed to her several times. Ichabod states he is glad for her.
