Do hummingbirds eat every ten minutes?

Hummingbirds have a very high metabolism and require almost constant feeding to survive. During the night when they are unable to navigate and feed, hummers go into a sort of 'suspended animation' or hibernation to slow their metabolism. Otherwise they would die during the night for lack of food. Wildlife rehabilitators who care for injured or orphaned hummingbirds must feed their charges every 15-20 minutes. Of course, since they are unable to fly in such situations their food requirements are less.
