Do hood scoops work

They allow air to flow under the hood, which helps your carburetor breathe better--if the air reaches it through the air filter.

A hood scoop works in different ways. It funnels cool air from the outside of the engine compartment into the intake of the vehicle. Some say that they also compress the air before entering the combustion process, much like a super charger. This is incorrect. The cooler air is correct, but the compression of air and air density really have no effect in this case on a naturally aspirated engine.
