What is a midi instrument?

A M.I.D.I. instrument is an instrument that is compatible with the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (M.I.D.I.). This technology allows an instrument to talk to another instrument digitally.

The MIDI interface has been around for many years and has served musicians well despite its limitations. In recent years, USB has been used in preference to MIDI because of the far higher data rate available compared to MIDI.
