Staying calm, or staying cool, is important for a health care
worker because it is the most functional state of mind to be in
that allows for the clear thinking that is required in order to
make rational decisions. Being the opposite, emotional, is
wonderful for relieving some of the distress that a patient can
experience from the fear brought on by their condition, but that
will do nothing to make them better in the long run. In other
Words, a calm mind can take care of problems, an emotional mind can
feel better about its situation, but cannot do anything about it.
That's why they are called patients in the first place, because
they have to be patient.
