Why does BMW 745LI says repeat gear selection the screen when the car stops?

This seems to be a faulty gear selector problem. This is a recall item in the 750 series begining mid-2000's. I have a 2003 745Li and purchased a new gear selector, which I am about to have installed. I would not do this install youself - I would go to a certified BMW mechanic (not the stealership), because the airbag has to be removed and an impact wrench is needed to remove the metal frame under the airbag,which allows access to the gear selector. This problem has been keeping my car's computer "alive" after I shutdown the car that results in the battery going dead all the time. You can get the part (6927887) on ebay for less than $75 USD.
