What does the stick represent in Lord of the Flies?

The beast is a symbol of the evil inside people, their capacity to do violent and unpleasent things simply because they that have the power to do so and also because they wish to do so. The beastie or snake-thing also symbolises irrational fear of the unknown.
It signify's the evil within us all.
