What are planter fibromas?

Planter fibromas, also known as plantar fibromatosis or Ledderhose disease, are benign tumors that develop in the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. These fibromas can cause discomfort or pain when walking or standing, although they are not typically associated with malignant behavior. The exact cause is unknown, but they may be related to genetic factors, trauma, or certain medical conditions. Treatment options include observation, physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, or surgical removal in more severe cases.
