How much is a leopard gecko supposed to eat a day . what if mine eats only 3 a week?

i give him about 5 and the pet store girl told me to take everything out of his tank so he pays attention to his food and nothing else. he doesnt have a fat tail neither but he poos everyday so i dont know.
