What is a moose metabolism?

Metabolism is the chemical process an organism uses to extract energy from its foodstuff in order to maintain, grow, and reproduce. Moose are ruminants (4 chambered stomach), which enables moose to use bacteria in their rumen to help break down highly lignified forages, such as twigs and leaves. This microbial action allows moose to metabolize more energy from the plants in their diet.
