How is it possible for an insect to carry along its own light?

Fireflies produce light through a biochemical process in its lower abdomen called bioluminescence. An enzyme in its body reacts with a ligh-emitting compound that is also there, called luciferin. Together with a few other substances also in its body and with the help of oxygen this reaction produces light.
