I was pleasantly surprised to note that some do. The skink is one of the largest families of related lizards, comprising seventy five genera and six hundred species. Mostly they live on the hotter continents of Africa and the Indian subcontinent through Australia. But one, the five-lined skink, is a small and striped thing (hence the name) and found in the woods of the southeastern United States--an area which includes, of course, the state of South Carolina. http://www.snakesandfrogs.com/scra/lizards/sclizard.htm
