Some of the adaptations that a snail (Apple Snails specifically) possesses is the fact that they have both 1 lung and 1 gill. This means that they can either breathe air through a tube like siphon on the left side of the body, or they can absorb oxygen straight from the water. Apple Snails also have a shell door which allows them to retain moisture in the case of droughts (some aquatic snails can survive out of the water for 120 days if the humidity is high enough because of this shell door). They also tend to lay their eggs above water out of the reach of hungry fish. Apple Snails can also skim food off of the top of the water, rather than having to scavenge for it on the bottom of their environment. They will use their foot to trap food floating on the surface by funneling water through it, and then eat the food. Some snails (not Apple snails) are hermaphroditic, which means that they do not need a male and female to reproduce, they are capable of asexual reproduction; which in the case of a small population of snails, can greatly increase their numbers very quickly.
