typically if you have been feeding yours properly and the environment is adequate to what the python needs to survive they shed differently. If the humidity is proper in it's cage they will shed it off in one full peice; however, if yours is like mine...shedding takes a few weeks and it usually starts falling off from the taill and working its way to the head. During this time my snake is usually very active because she is trying to knock the skin off on her own. I usually help with a warm washcloth by peeling it off myself. I don't know if you can tell if the snake is sick or not, but I thought I would share how my snake sheds and hopefully you will see that each is different from the other depending on the environment.
