How much blood supply does the heart need?

I lost 6 (British) pints of blood over 3 days due to internal bleeding. I did not know anything was wrong until I finally collapsed unconscious in my bathroom one morning. I was unconscious for the next 2 1/2 weeks before they could bring me round. So you can survive with only 1/3 of your blood, and go to work as normal. I did.
