Why did Roald Dahl almost lose his nose?

I just read his book BOY and he said he broke it because of an accident when he was a kid. He's sister was driving the car and they were going really fast. When they were about to enter a sharp curve the girl wasn't use to it so there was an accident and dR. dUNBAR sewed it on again. i think that's it. :)
