The pilgrims went to Plymouth because they were being persecuted in England. They sought religious freedom. When a monarch in England, at that time, was in control, they would make you practice their faith. Many of the English monarchs at that time were practicing the English faith. It a form of Christianity, but they broke off from the Catholic Church because they didn't like what the Catholic Church was teaching.
