Depends on the type of lock, If its a common mortice lock you may be able to work it out with a screwdriver but if it has been jammed into a cylinder lock as an act of vandalism then the only real way is to change the lock. If you are locked out your door will need to be forced but you are best to pay whatever it takes to get a Locksmith or a tradesperson who knows how rather than attempting yourself. Thes types of locks can be forced relatively easily leaving very little damage, If you kick it in you will be needing to spend a lot more on a new door and frame.
