Nancy Ward, also known as Nanyehi, was a prominent 18th-century Cherokee leader born around 1738. She became a significant figure in the Cherokee Nation, particularly during the American Revolutionary War, where she advocated for peace and diplomacy. After her husband’s death in battle, she took on leadership roles, including being a Beloved Woman, which gave her a voice in tribal councils.
