Why is medical waste hazardous?

Medical waste can contain infectious bacteria, viruses, or other organisms, and some of the medical hardware, such as hypodermic needles, increases the hazard since it is sharp and you could accidentally cut into the skin, allowing the infection easy access to your blood stream.
