How is a renegade different from a vigilante?

A renegade typically refers to someone who rebels against established norms or authority, often acting independently and outside of societal rules. In contrast, a vigilante takes the law into their own hands, seeking to enforce justice outside of the legal system, often in response to perceived failures of that system. While both may operate outside conventional boundaries, a renegade's actions are more about defiance, whereas a vigilante's actions are driven by a desire for justice.
