Why are RAF rescue helicopters yellow and the navys red grey is it for a scientific reason or is it for identification purposes?

Each service chooses it's own aircraft colours. -In the RAF even each Command chooses it's aircraft colours, often for quite vague reasons. Yellow is seen to be high visibility.
