What does endeleo in Swahili mean?

It is a noun from the verb kuenda (or kwenda), to go, and means a movement forward. However, endeleo rarely appears in the singular but is almost exclusively used in the plural, maendeleo, meaning progress or development. The district development officer would be ofisa wa maendeleo. Maendeleo ya kujenga nyumba, progress in building the house.
