Can you cut the bupropion HCL XL tablets in half?

As an aspiring pharmacy student, we are taught never to cut open any tablets indicated with a Sustained Release, Extended Release or Enteric Coated Formulation.

These products are made to dissolve slowly or slowly release the contents of the medication as it passes through your system.

Cutting open these certain medications can lead to an overflow, or increased amount of absorption of the drug into the body.

As per any medication; the higher the concentration of the medication, the more of an effect you will have, in terms of mechanism of action as well as side effects.
