How is Thor's natural affinity for earth revealed by his character?

Besides being the son of Earth (Forgynsson), Thor is an "earthy" character, concerned with simple pleasures such as eating and drinking and showing off his strength. He is the god of Karls, the laboring class of Northern society. Contrast this with Odin, the god of Jarls or nobles, who is more subtle and concerned with the materials and trappings of wealth (though quite abstemious in his diet).
