Where did Zheng He live and was raised?

Zheng He was born in 1371 in Kunyang, which is in present-day Yunnan Province, China. He was raised in a Muslim family and later captured by the Ming Dynasty, where he was taken to the court in Nanjing. There, he was castrated and became a trusted servant of the Yongle Emperor, eventually rising to the rank of admiral.
