P1131 code switch sensor indicates lean how do you fix it?

check engine light came on run for a few days and all of a sudden the light goes out. Put my obd2 instrument on it and got a reading P1131 indicating a lack of HO2S11 switches- sensor indicates lean. can you tell me what may cause the light to come on. The car is 1997 Mercury Tracer.
