Why are pregnant women given Betamethasone and Dexamethasone?

Pregnant women are given Betamethasone and Dexamethasone primarily to enhance fetal lung maturity in cases of preterm labor. These corticosteroids help stimulate the production of surfactant in the fetal lungs, reducing the risk of respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants. Additionally, they may also be used to manage certain pregnancy complications, such as fetal growth restriction or to improve outcomes in cases of preterm delivery. Their administration is typically considered when delivery is anticipated before 34 weeks of gestation.
