Taxation was one of the issues initiating the Revolution, and is part of why the Colonies sought freedom from British rule. In 1769, Parliament repealed all duties except for the tax on tea. The Boston Tea Party ensued in December, 1773, causing the creation of the Boston Port Act in 1774, stating that all Boston ports were to remain closed until the town reimbursed the India Tea Co. for their estimated 20,000 lbs. of tea.
