Have you ever heard of the Hindenburg incident? Yeah. That was essentially a lack of understanding that Hydrogen loves to blow up at inconvenient times.
There are a number of problems with using hydrogen as a fuel source:
a) it hates being compressed, hydrogen gas has a low density and when it is compressed it fills a very small space hardly capable of being useful for consumer purposes.
b) getting hydrogen that can be used for fuel is a fuel consuming process in itself.
c) you have to store hydrogen at extremely low temperatures and at a high pressure, we have yet to create a container capable of handling these specifications that is the same size as a gas tank (the container is too large)
