Once the Ice Age ended, around 10,000 years ago, Beringia, the land bridge connecting Asia and North America, was submerged due to rising sea levels caused by melting glaciers. This flooding isolated the populations on either side, leading to distinct genetic and cultural developments. The warmer climate also transformed the landscape, turning it from a cold, tundra-like environment into more diverse ecosystems, which facilitated the migration of various species, including humans, into the Americas.
