The earliest Chinese writing was found on oracle bones, which were used in divination practices during the Shang dynasty (around 1600–1046 BCE). These bones, typically from oxen or turtles, featured inscriptions that included questions posed to ancestors and the interpretations of the results. This form of writing is considered one of the oldest known systems of writing in East Asia.
