Is imprinting real or is it just for The Twilight Saga movies?

It's real in some animals, mostly fowl like ducks, geese, swans, etc and not for mates like in the Twilight Saga. Baby chicks "imprint" on the mother duck/goose/whatever and follow her. If they are taken from their mother and put with a different animal (any animal, even a human) during the first few hours of life, they will imprint on that animal and follow that animal until they're out of their infancy stage.
