St. Philip Evans was a Welsh Catholic priest who was executed on July 22, 1679, during the persecution of Catholics in England. He was martyred for his faith, specifically for his role in clandestinely ministering to Catholics in a time when such practices were illegal. Evans was captured, tried, and subsequently hanged, drawn, and quartered, becoming a martyr for the Catholic Church. He is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic tradition.
