Can you prune crabapple trees in the fall?

It isn't recommended because the pruning wound is left open for a longer period of time than when done in late winter just before growth begins. This allows die-back and diseases a greater chance of entering the tree. Also it is easier to see the structure of the tree when it is entirely leafless.
