Why a kx splutters when trying to hit power band?

My 2001 kx 250 was spluttering at top end. I tried new reeds, carb adjustment, power valve work, and all it turned out to be was my exhaust spark arresters was plugged with too much carbon crap build up. I changed arresters and my bike came back alive!
