When did the camera start being popular?

The first simple box cameras using roll film were made by Kodak from 1888 onwards. They were quite expensive at first but prices came down with the introduction of the 'Brownie' series of cameras in 1900. There were further significant reductions in price in the interwar period - and in the 1950s.
