Y does Edward Cullen hate mike newton?

Because he loves Bella and Mike likes her too, so Edward felt (feels) sort of protective. Wouldn't you get peeved(funny Word!(tee hee!)) if you boyfriend/girlfriend was being liked by someone else? I know I would.
