What is rule of nine?

In nursing the rule of nines refers to body surface area. We calculate body surface area to determine how much fluid replacement a burn victim will need. Each area is 9% Head Right arm Left arm Chest Abdomen Upper back Lower back Right thigh Left thigh Right leg (below the knee) Left leg (below the knee) Total = 99% of body. Last 1% is genitalia.
