What is transparent watercolor painting?

Transparent watercolour painting consists of using thin layers of highly diluted watercoolour pigments. These layers are applied over each other until the painter achieves the desired value. This technique creates a luminous affect as it allows the light to pass through the paper and reflect back to the person viewing the piece.
