How do salt water mussels eat?

Saltwater mussels feed by filtering plankton and small particles from the water. They use their gills to siphon water in, trapping food particles while expelling the filtered water. The particles are then transported to their mouth, where they are ingested. This filter-feeding method allows them to efficiently consume nutrients from their aquatic environment.
