During hibernation, Black Grizzly and Brown bears can go for several months—typically between 5 to 7 months—without eating, drinking, or passing waste. Their bodies undergo physiological changes that enable them to conserve energy and recycle waste products. They rely on stored fat for energy, and their metabolism slows significantly, allowing them to survive the winter months while in a state of dormancy.
